Ongoing Readiness

Recurring training and policy refreshers support consistent practice.

Organize learning around the real responsibilities of the program.

Program Orientation: The program orientation provides the foundation for staff learning by introducing the mission, vision, and youth-centered approach of the organization. It emphasizes effective communication, professional conduct, teamwork, and a clear understanding of the residential care model.

Trauma-Informed Care: Trauma-informed care focuses on helping staff understand trauma responses, emotional regulation, and common triggers. Training also covers relationship repair, de-escalation techniques, and the use of therapeutic interactions in everyday situations with youth.

Restorative Approaches: Restorative approaches emphasize accountability, constructive problem-solving, and healthy relationship repair. Staff learn how to strengthen community connections and respond to conflict in ways that promote understanding, responsibility, and positive behavioral change.

Records & Handoffs: Effective documentation and communication are essential to maintaining continuity of care. Staff are trained in objective documentation, shift-to-shift communication, incident reporting, accurate observations, and the proper completion of required forms.

Emergency Readiness: Emergency readiness prepares staff to respond appropriately to urgent situations within the program. Training includes program emergency procedures, safety responses, escalation pathways, and role-specific health and safety responsibilities.

Inclusive & Culturally Aware Care: Inclusive and culturally aware care promotes respectful communication and culturally responsive practices. Staff are encouraged to provide care that recognizes individual backgrounds and experiences while remaining aligned with Unity Youth Homes’ public mission.
